Acrobat Reader 10.4.0 for Android is now available from Google’s Play Store. One of the features is seamless support for Cloud services. This seems to come with a catch, which we will cover later in this article.
Actually, the Cloud feature is four different integrated features that are accessible from and Android device from anywhere you happen to be. The most prominent one is Acrobat.com. Acrobat.com is Adobe’s cloud storage feature. It has 2 GB space for the free version and after that you will have to upgrade to a paid version. You can upload PDF files for sharing and cloud storage.
Adobe EchoSign is a cloud-based service that lets you send a document to a list of people for approval. They get an email with a link that points them to the document. The people can approve the document by signing it and once everyone on the list has signed the document, everyone gets a final copy via email and a copy gets saved on Adobe’s cloud.
Adobe FormsCentral is an interesting tool that allows you to create a form and submit it to a lot of people. When people respond, Adobe pulls together all the responses and presents it in a live report so you can analyze it. You can embed the form on your web site or blog and send out via email and Twitter.
Finally a mobile-friendly site called Adobe SendNow. This is basically a custom FTP site that allows you to place your PDF files there and designate a person or several people to receive the file. They receive an email with a link and they can download the file. You receive an email when you each person downloads the file. You can track who has actually received the file.
You have probably seen the catch: the cloud services integrated into the reader are only Adobe’s cloud.
So all of this is Android-friendly in Adobe Reader 10.4.0. Unfortunately, if you want your Apple iDevice to have the latest reader, you will have to wait. Adobe is not yet ready to release an Apple iOS version.
